LSAT

The Murch LSAT (Local School Advisory Team) is an elected body of Murch staff, parents, and community members that advises the principal on matters of school policy. Formerly known as the LSRT (Local School Restructuring Team), the LSAT prepares a detailed school plan each spring as part of the DCPS budgeting process. This plan identifies current needs at Murch and sets long-term goals for achievement, teacher satisfaction and excellence, discipline and school environment. The LSAT presents the draft plan to parents for feedback and questions at one of the public forums held during the year, and then must sign the plan and budget before it is submitted to the Superintendent. For more info, see the DCPS website regarding the newest LSAT guidelines.

Strategic Visioning

Background

In 2009-2010, the LSRT, in coordination with the HSA and the Murch Administration, led a strategic planning process for the school. The starting point for this planning process was that Murch is a wonderful school and it can be even better.

Input from all Murch stakeholders was gathered, with parents and staff taking part in surveys and forums where they shared their perspectives on the school’s strengths and areas for growth as well as hopes and expectations for the future.

The document that emerged, Murch Strategic Plan 2010-2013: Taking Murch to the Next Levellays out a clear path forward for Murch. The plan aligns budget resources with school goals. It will enable Murch to continue to improve and enable each child to thrive.

Three measurable goals for the school were created, with annual targets and objectives. Two of the goals are focused on academic achievement, with the third addressing the socio-emotional well-being of Murch students. Together, these goals provide a roadmap for strong academic achievement and important personal growth for our students.

The Strategic Plan is a living document, being implemented today and reviewed each year to ensure that Murch is providing the best education possible to all of its students.
