Thank you for your interest in supporting Murch Elementary School. Murch families believe that it is vitally important to support and strengthen public education, and Murch has a long tradition of providing high-quality education to a diverse student body of more than 460 children. We depend on the generosity of our community to sustain and advance the mission of our school through several fundraising and community events throughout the year. The proceeds from these initiatives fund a broad range of H.S.A. (Home and School Association) activities, and are crucial to continuing Murch’s tradition of Blue Ribbon excellence There are many ways you can contribute, big and small. Your generous support – through money raised, goods donated, time volunteered -- keeps our school going strong. Read on for more information and exciting opportunities to get involved. The schoolyard is transformed into an amusement park featuring such attractions as a moon bounce, giant slide, games, entertainment, a flea market, used book sale, cake walk, Halloween costume sale, and lots of munchies. You can help by volunteering an hour of your time for your class’s booth, renting a table at the flea market, or contributing treats for the bake sale and cake walk. Whatever you do, be sure to attend what is THE social event of the season for the 11-and-under set. For more information, contact Emma Stewart or Julie York Gift-Wrap Sale The fall Sally Foster gift-wrap sale is a great way to stock up on beautiful high-quality holiday and all-occasion paper, ribbon, and assorted gifts – and support Murch at the same time. Murch students can earn prizes for making sales during the official campaign. However, even after the official deadline, everyone can continue to support Murch by ordering online at Sally Foster, so be sure to spread the word to out-of-town family and friends and remind them to credit Murch during the checkout process by entering our school’s account number 499225 when prompted. Free shipping for online orders over $60. Murch earns 50% profit of all sales! For more information, contact Susan Sylvester The book fair is held in the gym every year in late November. All books are new and excellent quality. Parents are welcome any time the fair is open, but there is always at least one evening when the event is open especially for parents to do holiday shopping. The Book Fair allows parents to purchase books for their child’s classroom and the school library too. The best part: 25% of the proceeds go to HSA in support of our school. This year’s book fair will be November 27-28. For more information, contact Sandra Tuck Barston’s Child’s Play has long been a neighborhood institution and a favorite toy store for Murch families. On a special night every fall, Child’s Play generously donates a percentage of all sales to our school. It’s a great way to get a jump on your holiday shopping and support Murch at the same time. Volunteers for gift wrapping are always needed as well. This year’s event takes place on Monday, November 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. 5536 Connecticut Ave NW at Morrison Street NW; (202) 244-3602. For more information, contact: Julia Porter This year's auction will be held on Saturday night April 12, at 7:00 p.m. at the National Geographic Society, 1145 17th Street, NW. The Murch auction is the school’s biggest fundraiser and a tour-de-force for the community. This “grown-up” party takes place at a glamorous venue where attendees bid on special class creations, travel, fine dining, and entertainment packages, gift certificates, books, fine art, and many more wonderful items in both silent and live auctions. This event depends on an extensive team of parent volunteers to solicit donations of auction items from the business community and from within the Murch community, coordinate class project-gifts, produce the auction catalog, sell tickets, and organize the logistics of the evening itself. More information about the Auction will be available on the Murch Web site in the coming months, but it’s never too early to start thinking about how you can get contribute:

You can access these auctions at www.bidformurch.org, which takes you to Planet Delmoss an eBay store that is operated by a Murch family and which is the designated eBay seller for our school. Note: Not everything for sale on Planet Delmoss benefits Murch – only items with a GivingWorks ribbon icon (which just happens to be our school colors, blue and gold).
Donate: Give Murch your quality new and gently used items and leave the rest to our expertMurch eBay Committee, who will take care of the rest -- putting the item up for sale on eBay and shipping it when it sells. We are particularly interested in collectibles, first edition books, designer clothing, antiques, fine art, high-quality toys (American Girl dolls, Thomas the Tank Engine equipment, etc.), and electronics. If you’re a business owner, consider donating excess new inventory, restocked items, or gift certificates. And if you’re looking for a way to recycle packing peanuts and bubble wrap, Murch eBay can always use packing supplies! Volunteer: Joining the Murch eBay Committee is a fun way to learn the secrets of power selling on eBay while helping our school. Tasks include photographing or scanning items for sale, preparing eBay listings using the TurboLister program (we’ll teach you how!), and packing sold items for shipping. Shop: Buy one of our many terrific items for sale! You can access current auctions through any of these links: www.bidformurch.org, Planet Delmoss http://stores.ebay.com/Planet-Delmoss, or via the Murch home page on Mission Fish. Happy bidding! For more information or to donate items to sell, contact: Laura Kaiser Online Shopping Portals You can raise money for Murch every time you shop online. It just takes a couple of quick easy steps to have a percentage of the proceeds from your purchase go to our school – and it’s FREE. Here’s how:
This portal features a vast array of retailers – including Nordstrom, LL Bean, Shutterfly and hundreds more -- who donate between 1% and 10% of the purchase price to Murch. (Note: Amazon purchases should be made through the Amazon link on the Murch Web site to get the maximum rebate; see below.) To get started, go to www.schoolpop.com and type in our school’s ID # 120519. Then start shopping by clicking on the logo of your favorite store. Click here on SHOP & EARN LETTER PDF for more information.
Amazon: Murch is participating in the Amazon Associates program. When you want to make a purchase on Amazon come here to the Murch Web site and click on the Amazon link . We will receive a 4% rebate from Amazon on most purchases (although there are dollar limits on computer purchases). Amazon automatically gives Murch a percentage of the purchase even though you won’t see any message to that effect. Also keep in mind that Murch receives a higher rebate rate for Amazon purchases made through this link than through SchoolPop, although please do use the latter for other online retailers. For more information, contact: Robin King Grocery Card & eScrip Programs Giant and Safeway both have programs where they make a contribution to Murch every time you (and your friends and relatives who also sign up) shop -- at no cost to you. We have earned up to $4,000 in past years, and some schools have earned significantly more. If you signed up in a previous year, you need to re-register every year either at a store’s customer service desk or online:
