Full Day Summer Art Camp at Hearst Elementary School

Over the course of one week with the Children’s Art Studio students may work with water color, beading,
embossing, oil painting, indigo dye, portraiture, book-making, sewing,
block printing, drawing, collage, Japanese fish printing, mobiles, wood sculpture, still life, landscape,
paper, found objects, clay, nature prints, drawing, ink, murals, puppets, vegetable prints, kinetic
sculpture, sand painting, tie-dye, and more.

Art history will be made compelling and the best of children's literature will be included in every class. We
will work outside in the fresh air, have picnics in the park, build forts, plan cities, work together, and
deepen our relationships with ourselves.

The Magic of Aloha

Since 1905, girls from the world over have shared the magic of Aloha, surrounded by pine forests, sunlit meadows and Lake Morey’s sparkling waters. Aloha is a traditional sleep-away camp in Vermont for teen girls who love living simply in nature, learning new skills and making fabulous friendships.

But Aloha is no ordinary summer camp: it’s a caring, learning community where every young woman discovers her own personal strengths and best self. It’s also fun, every day and every night!

Now in its 28th year, Levine's Music & Arts Day Camp provides kids with a fun and educational musical experience during the summer. Campers ages 3½ to 12 spend their days singing, dancing, playing instruments and developing their creative expression skills. This year's theme is music in our backyard (DC, MD, VA) - From John Philip Sousa and the military bands to the jazz great Duke Ellington, ragtime and early jazz virtuoso Jelly Roll Morton, country legend Jimmie Rodgers and blues legend Bo Diddley, along with Roberta Flack, Patsy Cline, Denyce Graves, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Sweet Honey in the Rock and the children’s duo Cathy & Marcy, to name a few. Music genres include jazz, hip-hop, go-go, country, mountain fiddle, marches, protest songs, and more…

Great camp right in the same neighborhood as Murch that offers campers the opportunity to chose from a variety of activities (Sports, Swimming, Arts & Crafts, Cooking Dancing, Acting, etc) that they are interested in to structure their day. My kids went through 4th grade and loved it! They did start to feel they had outgrown it somewhat in 4th grade and definitely now that they are in 5th grade but I can highly recommend it for Pre-K through 3rd in any event.

Located on the grounds of the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., Beauvoir Summer strives to create an inviting, collaborative and warm community for campers during the summer months. Beauvoir Summer offers camp programs for children ages 3 to 11 years old over the course of seven weeks. Exciting activities include field trips, swimming lessons, outdoor adventure programs and specialty camps. Beauvoir Summer also offers a counselor-in-training program for students aged 12 to 18. \r\n \r\nOur camps are designed to fit into the varied and busy lifestyles of today’s families. Through a variety of offerings, Beauvoir Summer makes it easy for you to create a schedule that works best for your family, offering before and after camp care programs as well. Simply put, Beauvoir Summer can accommodate all of your summer camp needs!

A great camp if you have multiple children who like to do different things. Sidwell has straight sport camps (soccer, basketball, field hockey, tennis/golf), as well as specialty camps like Lego Engineering, Voyagers, Handwork Camp, Machine Sewing, Fashion Boot Camp, Community Service and even Driver's Ed. It also has the Explorer program which allows kids to choose five activities per day ranging from soccer to Amazing Race to chess to Hip Hop to Chinese to Cooking and much, much more. For a large camp, it is exceedingly well run and very professional.

Run by the ever cheerful and motivational Coach Mac, Home Run is a baseball camp that instills the learning of the game while allowing for great flexibility for the parents. The kids are divided up by age and generally practice skills in the morning and have games in the afternoon. They are adept at dealing with the challenges of hot DC weather as well as bad weather. One great perk is that you can sign up anytime - now, the week before or just walk up. Home Run allows you to sign up for a single day or half day on the fly.
