Activities are for all ages, unless noted otherwise. Auditorium programs are on a first-come, first-seated basis. All activities are free.\r\n\r\nNovember 5\r\nSketching in the Galleries\r\n10:00–5:00\r\nEast Building\r\nExplore the new galleries and rooftop terrace through sketching and creative writing. Free sketchbooks and pencils will be distributed on the Ground Level to all visitors.\r\n\r\nNGAkids Art Zone\r\n10:00–5:00\r\nEast Building Ground Level\r\nDiscover interactive art that you can make online. Featuring a variety of art-making tools that encourage exploration and creativity, these computer-based activities are an entertaining and informative introduction to art and art history.\r\n\r\nA Perfect Balance\r\n11:00 (with ASL interpretation)\r\nEast Building Auditorium\r\nA one-man play inspired by Alexander Calder’s mobiles, A Perfect Balance celebrates the creative process, playfulness, wonder, and invention. Written and directed by Mary Hall Surface, performed by Kevin Reese; 45 minutes.\r\n\r\nDeviated Theatre\r\n1:30, 3:00\r\nEast Building Ground Level\r\nModern dance and performance art meet in an original piece by Deviated Theatre, directed by Enoch Chan and choreographed by Kimmie Dobbs.\r\n\r\nStory District\r\n1:00 (with ASL interpretation)\r\nEast Building Auditorium\r\nRecommended for ages 13 and up\r\nDC’s premier contemporary storytelling organization, Story District presents The Living Canvas: True stories inspired by works from the Gallery’s collection.\r\n\r\nCalder on Film\r\n3:00\r\nEast Building Auditorium\r\nMobile by Alexander Calder (National Gallery of Art, 1980, 24 minutes) follows Calder’s journey with architect I.M. Pei as they face the challenge of creating the technically complex mobile commissioned for the East Building.
