Did you know that Murch is the University of the District of Columbia's Ward 3 school garden partner, or that Murch is a monarch way station certified by monarchwatch.org? The fence around the monarch garden was even built by two boy scouts who included QR codes on some of our trees. Some of our students' most important learning opportunities take place outside the classroom!
The Murch Green Scene (MGS) is responsible for so much of what makes Murch's grounds so beautiful. The group is co-led by Alma Paty, Murch's Gardens and Ground Coordinator, and Kirsten Metzger-Gilbert, a Murch Parent. They are responsible for many of the amazing opportunities experienced by students and families:
- Beautification and clean-up days
- Monday Litter Patrol
- Murch Plus Nature Studies
- Butterfly and pollinator gardens
- Caring for the 38 tree boxes around the school's perimeter
