🌍 International Night at Murch – Thursday, June 4

We’re excited for another fantastic International Night on Thursday, June 4 from 6:00–8:00 PM! This special evening celebrates the rich diversity of our Murch community—and we’d love your help to make it a success.

What is International Night?
It’s a joyful, schoolwide celebration of our global community, where families come together to share performances, culture, and food from around the world. Students will receive “passports” to stamp as they travel from table to table—exploring displays, learning about different cultures, and tasting foods from various countries and U.S. states.

We brought this beloved event back last year, and it was a huge success, featuring over 30 countries and hundreds of participants. Let’s make it even bigger and better this year!

How can you participate?
The International Night Committee is looking for families to share their culture through art, music, dance, crafts, traditional clothing, and food. Whether you host a table, perform, or contribute a dish, every bit helps make the evening special.

George Mason Baseball Kids Day – May 3!

You’re invited to a fun-filled Kids Day with the George Mason Patriots baseball team as they take on the George Washington Colonials on Sunday, May 3! Tickets are just $5, making this an easy and affordable outing for the whole family.

Stick around after the game for kids run the bases and postgame autographs—plus a potential group photo on the field for attendees!

Our talented 4th and 5th graders have been hard at work creating an original production from the ground up—developing characters, writing scripts and lyrics, choreographing dances, and designing costumes, props, and sets.

Under the direction of the Educational Theatre Company, this student-driven performance is sure to entertain. You won’t want to miss this creative, collaborative showcase of Murch talent!

Enrollment Update: Kindergarten Takes the Lead!

Thank you to everyone who has already enrolled for the 2026–2027 school year—we’re off to a fantastic start!

We’re currently at 40% of our projected enrollment (628 students). Every completed enrollment plays an important role in helping us plan for staffing, resources, and a strong start to next year.

Grade-Level Challenge Update (standings as of April 22):

Pre-K: 45%
Kindergarten: 51% — Taking the lead!
1st Grade: 48%
2nd Grade: 40%
3rd Grade: 37%
4th Grade: 33%

The grade with the highest enrollment percentage by May 22 will win a grade-wide cookout and end-of-year celebration!

Join the LSAT for the 2026–27 School Year!

The Murch LSAT is seeking parents to join the advisory team for the 2026-27 school year. The Local School Advisory Team (LSAT) is a group of elected and appointed members that exists at every DCPS school. The Murch LSAT includes parents, teachers, non-instructional staff, and a community member who collectively provide advice to the principal on ways to support student achievement.

The Murch LSAT aims to gather a diverse group of parent representatives that reflect our whole school community. We hope you’ll considering joining for next school year!

Capital Cotillion – Registration Now Open!

Looking for a unique opportunity for your child to build confidence, learn social etiquette, and have fun with peers? Capital Cotillion offers a wonderful program where students practice manners, dressing up, and social dancing in a welcoming, structured environment.

A Murch parent shared that their children have participated for several years and found it to be an enriching and memorable experience—and many Murch families may not yet be aware of it!

Pre-registration for the 2026–2027 school year is now open, and classes tend to fill quickly in the spring. Families are encouraged to sign up early to secure their preferred schedule.

🏃‍♀️ STEM for Her 5K Fun Run!

Lace up and join us for the 2nd Annual STEM for Her 5K Fun Run—a fun, community-powered event for a great cause!

🗓 Sunday, May 3 at 9:00 AM
📍 Starting at 41st & Chesapeake Street NW, with a looped course around Alice Deal Middle School

Organized by 9th grade students from School Without Walls and GDS–proud Murch and Deal alums–this event supports STEM for Her, a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring girls and young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

This friendly 5K is open to all ages and all paces—run, jog, or walk! Strollers are welcome, and there will be snacks, water, and a STEM for Her information booth to learn more about their mission.

Aftercare Programming Update for 2026-27 School Year

Dear Murch Families,

I am writing to share an important update regarding our aftercare programming for the 2026-27 school year.

For more than 15 years, Capitol Language Services (CLS) has been a valued partner in providing aftercare at Murch. We are deeply grateful for their long-standing commitment to our community and the care they have shown to our students over the years.

As we look ahead, the administration has been exploring ways to expand access to affordable, high-quality aftercare options for families. After reviewing multiple providers and considering factors such as program structure, cost, enrichment offerings, and capacity, we are planning to move forward with Future Stars as our aftercare and enrichment vendor beginning next school year.

Why the Change?

Future Stars will be able to offer:

Extended care hours
A wide selection of after-school clubs and enrichment options
Lower overall costs for families compared with current pricing
Flexible enrollment options

To help you learn more about Future Stars and what they offer, we are sharing their informational brochure. This includes sample schedules, program highlights, club descriptions, and pricing.

We understand that changes to aftercare routines affect families in different ways. Our goal is to provide clear, timely information and ensure a smooth transition for everyone.

After spring break, we will share enrollment timelines, registration instructions, and opportunities to meet the Future Stars team.
