Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who will be directing the Murch Musical, Dear Edwina Jr.?
A: The Murch HSA has hired Levine Music to direct and produce the musical. Levine, with a campus in Van Ness, has been providing musical instruction to the greater DC area since 1976. Levine staff will handle all aspects of the production, including casting, direction, music, choreography, set design and costumes.
Q: Who can audition?
A: Auditions will be open to all Murch 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who would like to try out. Auditions will be held on Monday, January 30; Tuesday, January 31; and Wednesday, February 1. Interested students will audition during a half-hour block of time between 3:30 - 6:00 PM on one of the dates. Callbacks will be held on Tuesday, February 7 from 3:30 - 6:00PM. (Callbacks are an additional audition for specific roles.) Sign up for auditions through this webform.
Q: How will casting be decided?
A: All casting decisions will be the sole discretion of the director and musical director from Levine Music. The show can accommodate a cast of up to 50 children. Based on previous years, there may be more children auditioning than roles in the musical. Preference will be given to 4th and 5th graders. Final casting decisions will be announced on February 9.
Q: What sort of time commitment is required?
A: Participating in the musical is a significant time commitment for cast members. Missing rehearsals impacts the entire cast, so students should make sure they are able to fulfill their responsibility to attend rehearsals before accepting a part in the musical. Rehearsals will begin on Friday, February 10, and will be held two days a week (mostly on Mondays and Fridays) from 3:30 up to 6:00PM. Additional rehearsal days will be added as we get closer to production up to 3 days per week. Performance dates are Thursday, June 8 and Friday, June 9.
Q: Is there a fee to participate?
A: No. The musical production is being fully funded by the Murch HSA this year.
Q: What parental involvement will be required?
A: Parent volunteers will be needed throughout the winter and spring with the bulk of volunteer time required the week of the performances.
