As Murch gets closer and closer to renovation, everyone in the community has plenty of questions. There are many details that are still being sorted out, but there are also many things that are known and worth highlighting.
First and foremost, by the fall of 2018, Murch will have a tremendous, new facility that fits our student population and meets the needs of a top-notch 21st Century educational program. In the coming weeks, the newsletter will be showing off some updated drawings of the design for the renovated Murch. (You can see the last drawings that were provided to the community here.) The new Murch is shaping up to be an incredible place for our students to learn and grow!
Second, the SIT is now working with the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), DCPS, and DGS to create a specific plan for swing space during the next two school years. One thing thing that is clear from the discussions over the last week is that Murch at UDC can be more than just a temporary physical space for the school. It can be a welcoming home for Murch students. It can provide the school with necessary support for its current educational programs, as well as opportunities for partnerships that can strengthen Murch’s programs.
The vision ahead is great, but hard for many families to picture. As the plans for Murch at UDC and the new Murch develop, the HSA and SIT will be creating and updating a list of frequently asked questions for the community. We hope that these help provide a better sense of what lies ahead for the school and its students. If you have any questions that you would like answers to, please let us know and we will try to answer them in the weeks to come.
