As the only LSAT parent representative up for election this year, Stephanie Sexton wishes to introduce herself to the Murch community:
My name is Stephanie Sexton and our family is new to the Murch community this year. We have 4 sons, two of whom have spent this past school year at Murch. Sammy is finishing 5th grade, and Jason is finishing 3rd. We have spent the last 10 years living outside of the United States and this is our first time living in the DC area. Both of my boys have had a seamless transition into Murch and we are so grateful for the warm welcome from the community.
I have worked in education for 15 years as a learning support specialist and more recently as an educational psychologist. My passion is creating environments where all students can access the curriculum with success and develop a love of learning. I am interested in being a part of the Murch LSAT team to support the continued growth and equitable access for all students in the Murch community.
Murch Plus is back! Thanks to the generous support of the HSA and the Murch staff, we are very happy to announce Murch Plus Wednesdays, starting April 27th and ending June 22nd.
Kindergarten students through third graders can sign up for an after-school class of creativity and play, Wednesdays after school until 4 pm. If the requests exceed capacity, spots will be assigned by lottery. The rotation schedule within the cohorts will be by lottery as well. You will receive an email between April 25th and 26th if your student is placed in a cohort.
We will offer Murch Plus for four cohorts, two in K and 1st and two in 2nd and 3rd. Please be aware that only students from the respective grade band can apply for a spot.
Please sign up by 8pm this Sunday, April 24th. Please sign up here.
Each cohort will have three groups who rotate through a nine-week program, spending three weeks with each program/teacher. The cohort options are below:
Cohort 1, K and 1st (flag football with Mr. Pyle, arts/science with Ms. Turner and school yard games with Ms. Bland)
Cohort 2, K and 1st (dance routine/cheer with Ms. Allen, paper creatives with Ms. Anderson and school yard games with Ms. Berger)
Cohort 3, 2nd and 3rd (flag football with Mr. Hayden, innovation/entrepreneur with Ms. Sessoms and architecture with Mr. Travitz)
Cohort 4, 2nd and 3rd (dance with Ms. Tara, art/mixed media with Ms. S. Gilson and school yard games with Ms. Ellis)
Is your act dancing and singing along to your favorite song?
Then we look forward to seeing you in the separate Lip Sync Show this June!
Anyone from Kindergarten to 5th grade can participate. Soloists, groups, clubs and classes can perform. Tryouts will begin later in April. Note these are simply tryouts, not competitive auditions. Students come to show the acts they have planned and get tips on improving them. We try to include everyone in the show who would like to perform. (Remember, please NO lip sync acts! Save those for the separate Lip Sync Show that will take place this June.)
For questions, please email Murch music teacher, Dr. Eugene Branch, at eugene.branch@k12.dc.gov.
Provide participant information, and parent or guardian contact info and permission.
The Murch Talent Show is back in-person this May!
The Talent Show is a great way to celebrate the performing talents of our kids. And there is nothing more fun to students than to see their friends celebrated front-and-center!
In order to make this event happen, the HSA needs 1 – 2 more parent volunteers to join the Talent Show team. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Bonnette for more information. Thanks for your help!

The Support Our School (SOS) Campaign wrapped up on December 31, and we exceeded our fundraising goal…by a lot. We raised almost $105,000, or almost $28,000 over our goal. Even more exciting is that we had over 200 families invest in our community, an increase of 55% over last year!
Thank you to all of the Murch families and community members that invested in Murch. Your donations allow the HSA to fund so many programs and initiatives at Murch, including:
The HSA is so grateful for everyone’s support. If you haven’t yet donated but would still like to invest in our community, you may do so at any time on the Murch website. Click on the yellow “Donate to SOS Campaign” button and donate any amount. Thanks so much!!
Murch students are invited to receive a FREE ticket to the AU Eagles men’s basketball game versus the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks on New Year’s Day.
Additional tickets can be purchased at discounted prices. Flyers with NEW electronic ticket ordering instructions were sent home in early December or simply click HERE to reserve your tickets/seating with fellow Murch families by December 28. For questions, please email Clawed@american.edu!

As the SOS campaign nears its end, we have one final prize to offer the Murch community. The grade that has contributions (of any amount) from the most families by 3pm on December 17 will win a lunchtime donut treat! Want to know how your grade is doing so far? Check back here for regular updates.
As of December 15, the standings are as follows:
Pre-K: 24
Kindergarten: 43
First: 45
Second: 53
Third: 37
Fourth: 35
Fifth: 29
While we reached our goal of $77,000, and are so grateful for all of the support we have received so far, we are hoping to increase the percentage of families participating in this year’s campaign. If you haven’t donated yet, please consider making an investment of any amount in the HSA and its work for the Murch community, students, and teachers. Remember, donations are tax-deductible, voluntary, and greatly appreciated!
